The ladies will love this news ! Channing Tatum will return to strip again in the new ‘Magic Mike’ sequel. Channing Tatum also wrote the screenplay for the sequel, which will be titled ‘Magic Mike XXL’. Gregory Jacobs, who served as Steven Soderbergh’s first assistant on the first film, will direct the sequel, with Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer and Matthew McConaughey expected to co-star. The film begins shooting this fall.

Here’s the reboot trailer for ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

The fact that Michael Bay is producing this could either be a good or a bad thing. Unfortunately, I’m going to have to go for the ladder. It looks good visually, but Michael Bay wouldn’t have been my first choice. Also, does the trailer seem to start off like it’s a Transformers film? I may be wrong, but it just looks pretty off to me. ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ is directed by Jonathan Liebesman and will be released August 8th.

Here is the trailer to Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Hercules’

Dwayne Johnson seems like the type to play the ‘Hercules’ kind of role, but I don’t know. He seems to be a fit for this one, but judging by the “I AM HERCULES” belt at the end of the trailer,I don’t have faith that it’ll be all to good. Dwayne Johnson, in my opinion, has come a long way since ‘The Tooth Fairy’ and I’m excited to see him in more serious films. Hercules will be released July 25th, 2014.

REVIEW: 300: Rise of an Empire

Image

Staring: Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, David Wenham and Rodrigo Santoro

Directed by: Noam Murro

‘300: Rise of an Empire’ isn’t really a sequel or a prequel. The events in this film happen during the same events of Leonidas and his 300 soldier’s during their battle with Persian God Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his many soldiers. The story revolves around Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton) and his battle against the Persian at sea, with the evil Artemisia (Eva Green) in Persian command.

‘300: Rise of an Empire’ relied a lot on it CGI blood and slow motion battle scenes, which wasn’t really a bad thing in the beginning. However, the battle scenes did seem a little over done by the end of the film. I did enjoy the film for what it was, but it was missing a lot of what made ‘300’ special in the first place. Gerard Butlers performance in ‘300’ was fantastic and I feel that a performance was missing in this film. Butler carried the film through most of its runtime and I didn’t feel Sullivan Stapleton rose to that occasion. However, Eva Green, who played Persian Commander Artemisia, stole the show for me with his over the top performance. She was bad and sexy at the same time.

If you are going to see this with a parent, be careful of the over-the-top sex scene. It was probably one of the weirdest, most awkward sex scenes I’ve ever seen. It just came literally out of nowhere. There will definitely be another 300 film and I’m praying it’s a direct sequel so we can get some resolution to the story. If you like action movies, than chances are you’ll like 300. I didn’t really want to see it as I was expecting it to be awful, but it wasn’t all that bad and is worth an I-MAX viewing.

Grade: B

Are you ready for more ‘Prometheus’?

Image ‘Prometheus’, to me, was a good film. It wasn’t ‘Alien’ good, but it did have that feel to it and I was left asking for more. Not all questions were answered, which led us to believe that there is more to the story. ‘Prometheus 2’ will be made, with a March 4th 2016 release date. Shooting could start as early as fall 2014, while ‘Green Lantern’ writer Michael Green and Ridley Scott still work on the script. Green and Scott are also working together on the ‘Blade Runner’. Are you excited for this news? I know I am ! Hopefully, this leans closer to the ‘Alien’ universe, as I would love to see a closer connection between those two worlds.

Pixar confirms sequels to be released

One film we’ve been praying to see more of, another that we don’t need to see more of, but Pixar is notorious nowadays of making sequels for their films. Toy Story 3 was fantastic, only to have ‘Cars 2’ and prequel ‘Monsters University’ to be released with lukewarm reviews. Pixar has confirmed a sequel to ‘The Incredibles’, which I’m very excited about, and ‘Cars’, which already has a sequel and 2 spin-off films (‘Planes’ and the upcoming ‘Planes: Fire and Rescue’). No word on when these films will be released, but it’s about time we see ‘The Incredibles’ sequel, which I thought they’d make before anything else. Pixar has lacked the magic it would bring to films like ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Finding Nemo’, but let’s not count these guys out. The potential to make great sequels (‘Toy Story 3’) is there and they still have some original films to be released with ‘The Good Dinosaur’ and ‘Inside Out’ to be released 2015 and ‘Finding Dory’ to be released 2016.

Here’s a new trailer for the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ adaptation ‘Maleficent’

I really want to enjoy this one. There’s something keep me from thinking it’s going to be a good film. Was it my views on ‘Alice in Wonderland’? Which I thought was lacking something. Or was it the recent ‘OZ’ film? which I felt lacked the magic of ‘Wizard of Oz’. What keeping me intrigued about this one is Angelina Jolie, who looks stunning even if she’s trying to look absolutely frightening. The special effects also look very good in this one too. ‘Maleficent’ will be released May 30th, 2014, under the direction of Robert Stromberg.
